Laura Motchalov won Second Prize at the Corpus Christie International Concerto Competition in 2001, then in 2003 joined the first violins of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra. Her teachers include William Preucil, Linda Cerone, Zvi Zeitlin, and members of the Ying, Cleveland, and Cavani Quartets. Formerly violinist of the Atlantica Trio, Motchalov remains active as a chamber musician and soloist. She is a member of the new music ensemble, IonSound Project, and has played a Joseph Curtin violin since 2008.
