Elmar Oliveira, renowned soloist and recording artist, won a gold medal at Moscow’s Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1978 – and remains the only American to have done so. He began violin at age nine with his brother John, then studied with Ariana Bronne and Raphael Bronstein. He is currently in residence at the Lynn University Conservatory of Music. Oliveira performs on the “Stretton” Guarneri del Gesu, and on a series of outstanding contemporary violins. These have included two by Curtin & Alf, which he used for several CDs.
