Steven Dann, Viola

Steven Dann served as principal viola for the Royal Concertgebouw, Tonhalle, National Arts Center, Toronto Symphony, and Vancouver Symphony orchestras, and has performed as soloist with conductors Sir Andrew Davis, Rudolph Barshai, Jukka-Pekka Saraste, and Vladimir Ashkenazy. His recordings are on the Sony, Naxos, CBC Records, Marquis Classics, Centrediscs, RCA Red Seal, Ondine, Kairos, Chandos, ATMA Classique, and Toccata Classics labels. Currently a member of the Smithsonian Chamber Players, the Zebra Trio, and Toronto’s multi-Grammy-nominated ARC Ensemble, Dann teaches viola and chamber music at Toronto’s Glenn Gould School, and coordinates the chamber music programs at Domaine Forget, Quebec, and the Music by the Sea Festival in British Columbia. His foremost teacher was Lorand Fenyves. He plays a 2019 Joseph Curtin viola.
