Milan Milisavljević, Viola

Milan Milisavljević is Principal Viola of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra in New York – the fifth person to hold that position since the company’s founding in 1880. He has also served as principal of the Finnish Radio Symphony, and as a member of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam. In 2016, he founded Music for the People, a non-profit “laboratory for how art music would be experienced and performed had it only been discovered in the 21st century…”

Milan has won prizes at the ARD and Lionel Tertis competitions, performed at Marlboro, Cascade Head, Lake Tahoe, and Grand Teton Music Festivals, and appeared as soloist with the Munich Chamber Orchestra and Belgrade Philharmonic. As a chamber musician, he has collaborated with members of the Guarneri, Mendelssohn, and St. Petersburg String Quartets, as well as Robert McDuffie, Joseph Kalichstein, Augustin Hadelich, and Sergiu Luca. Milan’s teachers include Atar Arad, James Dunham, Jutta Puchhammer and Nobuko Imai, and he holds a Doctorate from Rice University. Milan has played a Joseph Curtin viola since 2012.
