Alexander Sobolev is an industrial designer, instrument maker, and musician who is currently employed as a designer at Guardian Glass. He has worked with Joseph Curtin on the design of the Impulse Measurement Rig, the digitization and optimization of the violin fingerboard, high-quality instrument photography, and the development of ultralight instruments.
Born in the Ukraine, Sobolev immigrated to the USA as a child. In 2008 he received a B.F.A. from the University of Michigan School of Art & Design. His creative work has since focused on the intersection of new world technology and old world craftsmanship. Sobolev plays percussion and button accordion and has performed Baltic music with several bands. He also designs and builds furniture in a home workshop.
